Richard Slattery

Richard Slattery started out working at an auto parts store in the early 1950’s. He then became an ambulance driver in the mid 1950’s. The stress and long hours of that profession led him to answering an ad for a position at the Robert E. Morris Company. He was interviewed by Bob Morris who saw something in him and hired him in late 1959 for the stock room. From there, Dick started prepping machines like the Clearing (Harrison) lathes. Then started servicing Boyar Schultz surface grinders. He then started helping Rem Sales with shows like IMTS. Rem Sales carried the W. H. Nichols milling machines, Harrison lathes, Tsugami CNC equipment, Alliant knee mills, Omega cold headers & rotary thread rollers, to name a few at the time. He eventually started demonstrating machines like Nichols mills and Harrison lathes. He was known for his Harrison demonstration of cutting while balancing a nickel on end on the bed of the lathe. Some of us gave him the nick name “Mr. Harrison”! He then became national product manager for the Harrison lathe line and finally manager of the whole conventional machinery division at Rem Sales. Dick formally retired in 2000.
